This flower was given to me (unprompted) by a 9 year old client with significant attachment and mood problems. Since his adoption by his family 4 years ago the family has really struggled with him. In the month I have been working with him and he still struggles but this flower symbolizes hope for him. Hope that he can relate to others, grow, manage his mood, and make progress. Collaboration with his family, outpatient therapist, and school social worker has given us some really good direction. Connecting the family to a local support group on adoption issues has given them hope. We still have a long way to go. It is the little moments of progress that keep me going. This is also great reminder that progress comes from different places and has to measured in small steps.
