Last week I was frustrated, no angry about how the youth I work with talk about dropping out of school. I frequently have conversations with the 17 year old’s that I work with about “dropping out” or “quitting school”. These words just roll off the tongue too easily. In my ten years of public mental health practice I have seen this increase. We need to take a serious look at this problem and how we can respond.
First, we need to acknowledge that high school drop out is becoming a public health issue.
Then we need to take action via The National Dropout Prevention Network. Together we need to work on this important issue.
