In the last two months I have been to two conferences where hearing “use your data to ______” has been a common occurrence. Not down playing the concept at all but was eager to dive in. So in between conferences I downloaded the free 30 day trial of a data platform called Qlik and their product called “QlikSense”. Now all I needed was some data. I wanted to see how easy (or difficult) it is to use data to inform care.
Using open data from the New York State Department of Health I examined mental health data from the below data sets …
- Managed Care Plan Utilization (Beginning 2009)
- Medicaid Chronic Care Conditions: Inpatient Admissions and ER visits (beginning 2012)
The data was loaded into the QlikSense platform where it helps guide you into “insights” about trends they notice. It can be challenging to look at large sets of data but also can have potential benefits. Embarking on this project for the blog I thought screen shots would help explain. In the below Vlog I go into detail about how you can potentially use data to help you get unstuck.
