This week I am excited to share this detailed report entitled “Exploring the Community Response to Multiple Deaths of Young People”. The content of this report is wonderful; describing the need and how a whole community can respond. What is really cool is this report was shared by the primary author Trisha Forbes on social media. Trisha shares my enthusiasm about engaging with youth around this issue (and qualitative research).
Although this report focuses on Northern Ireland, it paints a great picture of the issue of responding to a suicide cluster. The literature review provides a valuable resource. How to involve all the important players in the community including some excellent media guidelines. There are some specific issues from Northern Ireland discussed but then the best part comes.
Researchers embarked on a case study of engaging youth in a conversation about a response to suicide cluster. They engaged in activities with youth and other community stakeholders to problem solve a response to a suicide cluster at many levels. This methodology created some incredible qualitative data.
This is a important read for anyone involved in suicide prevention at their school or community. This sheds light on potential barriers and solutions to implementing a response to a suicide cluster in your community. The conclusions are valuable.
Wonderful to “meet” you Trisha; great work by you and your colleagues. Please enjoy this report…
