Some Thoughts About Passion For Causes

A couple of weeks ago I gave a shoutout to some passionate people on twitter..

A few minutes later it dawned on me; the serious passion of people on social media. There are so many people whose tweets, blogs, and other posts just ooze passion out of their work. This is just a small sample of people looking to make a difference in this world.

In a recent social work twitter chat about increasing our involvement in politics, I imaged what would happen if we were really all together in same room. Oh the work we could have do. I am seeing awesome pieces of action taking place all over the world. Social work is just the beginning. I have connected with so many other people from various walks of life and disciplines. From those who receive services to those who manage them. One thing I can say there is a lot of passion out there.

If you follow me on twitter, in the last week I have been busy following a few conferences. First the American Association of Suicidology (#aas15) and then The National Council of Behavioral Health (#NatCon15). The energy and passion for people attempting to prevent suicide and change the conversation about mental health was amazing. It just oozed out of the tweets.

People are not happy with the status quo; people want things to change. I think this is where passion comes from. That moment when you say “this is not right” and “something needs to change”. Seems like there is true innovation happening and I am inspired by people having these moments. People have created business, books, articles, talks, etc due to these moments. These moments appear to be spurning action and fighting the stigma of mental health. I am excited to continue to connect with people with this type of passion. It motivates and inspires me and I hope it does the same to you.

What else drives YOUR passion for a cause?
